Most people who call us about Wix are not unhappy with how the site looks. They found out they cannot move it, or they hit a feature Wix does not have.
Wix says plainly that a Wix site has to run on Wix servers. A WordPress site is files and a database. If you ever leave us, you take a full copy to any host that runs WordPress. I would rather keep you because you want to stay.
On Wix you get the features Wix and its app market offer. On WordPress you can install any plugin or theme. Booking, forms, galleries and directories each have several options to pick from.
cPanel gives you the files, the database, email accounts and DNS. Most owners never open it. It matters the day something needs fixing and you want to know what is actually there.
The other side
Wix is a reasonable product, and for plenty of small businesses it is the right one. Here is when I would tell you to keep it.
The Wix editor is good at letting a non-technical owner drag things around and publish. WordPress can be edited by an owner too, but it is a different tool and there is a learning curve. If editing it yourself is the main thing you value, that is a fair reason to stay.
A few pages, a contact form, nothing you want changed. Lock-in only costs you something when you want to leave or add what Wix cannot do. If neither is true, a rebuild is money spent on a problem you do not have.
If bookings, a member area, a store and your email marketing all run through Wix apps, every one of them has to be replaced. That can be worth doing. It is a bigger project than a five-page site, and you should know that going in.
If you stay, download your original photos, logo and documents from the Wix Media Manager and keep them somewhere outside Wix. It costs nothing, and it makes any future move faster.
The move
Because Wix cannot hand over a working copy, leaving Wix is a rebuild. That sounds bigger than it is for most small sites.

I cannot promise rankings to anyone. What we do is keep your page addresses where we can and set up redirects where they have to change, so Google and your old links find the new pages.
Hosting is a monthly plan with no contract, and the renewal price matches month one. Rebuilding the site is web design work. We quote it in writing before we start.
