The Logins Are in Your Name
The hosting account, the WordPress admin and the domain are set up so you hold the keys. We have access to do the work. You never have to ask us for permission to see your own site.
The question we hear most is not about features. It is “Can I get into my own website?” Here is what you get when the answer is yes.
The hosting account, the WordPress admin and the domain are set up so you hold the keys. We have access to do the work. You never have to ask us for permission to see your own site.
WordPress is open software that most web hosts can run. Your site is files and a database you can download from cPanel. That is the opposite of a site that only exists inside one company’s builder.
Hosting is month to month with no contract. The renewal price is the same as month one, and if it turns out we are not a fit, you can cancel any month.
The other side
A hosted builder is not automatically a bad deal. These are the times I would tell you to stay put.
If the account is in your name, you can edit the pages, and you can get your content out when you want to, the biggest reason to move is gone. Keep it.
A hosted builder handles a basic site with hours and a phone number just fine. Rebuilding it will not make the phone ring more.
Read your agreement before you leave. If there is a term left or a cancellation fee, it may make sense to plan the move for when it ends. We can build the new site ahead of time so the switch is quick.
Whatever you decide, find out who the domain is registered to. It is the one piece that is hardest to replace and the easiest to check.
The move
Moving off a hosted builder is mostly paperwork and a rebuild. The paperwork comes first.
A new site is quoted through our quote form before we start. Hosting includes free migration assistance.
Who registered the domain, whose name is on the account, and where your email runs. We answer those first, because they decide how the rest goes.
We copy your text and photos into a new WordPress site on a preview address. Your current site keeps running.
We set up email here first if it needs to move, test it, then switch the website. Then you cancel the old service.
That is common when someone else set the site up. The domain is the piece that matters most. We help you find out who registered it and how to get it into your name. The site content we can rebuild from what is public.
Usually not as a working copy. Most hosted builders keep the design inside their own system, so we rebuild the site in WordPress using your words and photos. We look at your site first and tell you what to expect.
It should not. We check where your email actually runs before anything changes. If it is tied to the old service, we set up mailboxes here and test them before the website moves.
Hosting is a monthly plan sized to the site, and one small business site fits on our Foundation plan. Building the new site is quoted in writing before we start.
