Namecheap alternative

Keep the domain at Namecheap. Move the site to someone you can call.

Namecheap is a good place to buy domains. The hosting is where small business owners end up on their own: their own backups, their own fixes, a chat window when it breaks. We host the site in Ohio on cPanel, and your domain can stay right where it is.

The registrar stays. The hosting gets a person.

We are not asking you to leave Namecheap. Most people who call us keep their domains there and move only the website.

Keep the Registrar You Like

Namecheap built its name on domains, and plenty of people are happy with it as a registrar. You do not have to move the domain to move the hosting. We change a few DNS records and leave the registration where it is.

Nightly Backups on the Smallest Plan

Namecheap's AutoBackup tool is for its Stellar Plus and Stellar Business plans. Here, nightly backups and malware scanning are on every plan, Foundation included.

A Phone Call, Not a Chat Window

When a business site breaks, typing into a chat box is slow. Call (330) 305-2750 weekdays 9am-5pm Eastern and you get the person who set up your hosting.

The other side

When Namecheap is the better choice

Cheap hosting next to a cheap domain is the right setup for a lot of sites. Here is when we would tell you to keep it.

  • You only need a domain and forwarding

If the domain just forwards to a social page or a booking link, you do not need hosting at all. Keep the domain at Namecheap and skip us.

  • You run your own backups and fixes

If you are comfortable in cPanel, take your own backups, and fix your own WordPress, a budget Stellar plan plus your time is a fair setup. What we add is a person doing that part.

  • The site is a personal project

For a hobby site or a test, low-cost shared hosting is the right call. We are priced for sites that bring in business.

  • Your visitors are mostly outside the US

Our servers are in the United States. If most of your traffic is in Europe or elsewhere, a host with servers near those visitors will serve them better.

Move when the site brings in customers and you would rather not be the one fixing it. Until then, stay with what you have.

The move

What switching actually involves

This is a hosting move, not a domain transfer. Both sides run cPanel, and the domain stays registered at Namecheap the whole time.

We do the backup, the restore, and the testing. You sign in to Namecheap once, for the DNS change, and we can do that part on the phone together.

  1. Confirm what is at Namecheap

Domain only, hosting only, or both. Many Namecheap customers have the domain there and the hosting somewhere else already. We also check where the email is: Namecheap's Private Email, cPanel mailboxes, or a separate provider.

  2. Pull a full cPanel backup

Namecheap's Stellar plans run cPanel, so we take a full account backup with files, databases, and mailboxes. Nothing changes on the Namecheap side while we do it.

  3. Restore here and preview

The account goes up on our server and you check the site on a temporary address. Pages, forms, and logins get tested before anything points here.

  4. Update DNS at Namecheap

If the domain stays at Namecheap, we change the records in its DNS settings, or you add our records while we are on the phone. The domain registration itself is not touched.

  5. Cancel the hosting, keep the domain

After the site has run here for a few days, you cancel only the Namecheap hosting plan. Make sure the domain renewal stays on so your email and site keep working.

Questions

Do I have to transfer my domain away from Namecheap?

No. Most people who move their hosting to us keep the domain at Namecheap. We only need the DNS records changed, and you stay in control of the registration.

What happens to my email if I use Namecheap Private Email?

It can stay where it is. Private Email is separate from Namecheap hosting, so moving the website does not have to touch it. We keep the mail records the same when we change DNS.

Is a Namecheap move complicated?

Not usually. Both sides run cPanel, so a full account backup moves the site, databases, and cPanel mailboxes together.

Will my site go down?

Most moves can be done with little to no downtime when DNS is planned right. The Namecheap site stays live until the copy here is approved and the records are switched.
